with God

Col 4:2-4 (NLT)

2 Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart. 3 Don't forget to pray for us, too, that God will give us many opportunities to preach about his secret plan--that Christ is also for you Gentiles. That is why I am here in chains. 4 Pray that I will proclaim this message as clearly as I should.

I love Christian music. I like the songs that are being written today by young Christian artists. I won't go through naming names of some of my favorite ones, because you may have your own favorites also.
But what about these young Christian musicians playing loud with their guitars wailing and beats thumping?
To be honest even though I am in my 40's now, I still like them. In fact that's the type of music I listen to.
Some people have a problem with this type of Christian music. They say that they are imitating the world and they dress so funny, and they can't understand what they are saying.
You can go to almost any one of these Christian musicians websites and read about them, buy their CD's, T-shirts, download screen savers or wallpapers for your computer.
So are they bringing glory to themselves and not Jesus with these things? Is it another reason for you not to like them or talk bad about them?
The answer is NO!
You may not understand them or like the way they look, but if you condemn them for this then you are judging another brother or sister in the Lord.

  • Romans 14:3-4 3 Let not him who eats despise him who does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him who eats; for God has received him. 4 Who are you to judge another's servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand.

  • Don't judge God's servants.
Also if you go to their web sites you can read of how the Lord is using them all over the world to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with those that we can't reach.
These so-called bad boys (or girls) of Christian music are bringing hundreds, if not thousands to the Lord every year.
How many have you shared Jesus with this year?

So what does all of this have to do with today's devotional?
Just as your pastor and church needs your prayers, just as the missionaries need your prayers, just as your fellow Christian friends need your prays, just as me and this ministry needs your prayers, so do these young musicians.
Satan and his demons constantly attack them, but even worse, other Christians constantly attack them just because they don't like their music.
I would encourage you this week to stop attacking them and start praying for them and the work God has them doing.

Buy one of their CD's or go to their websites and read the lyrics to their songs, even though you may not be able to understand them you would be surprised of these words that glorify the Lord. These words that our younger children and young adults understand, are coming to the Lord and being saved.

Jesus was also condemned for eating and drinking with sinners, and this was His response.

  • Matt 9:11-13 11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, "Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" 12 When Jesus heard that, He said to them, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 13 "But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy and not sacrifice.' For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance."

  • These young musicians (and even older ones) are calling sinners to repentance, they are ministering to the sick and hurting, those in need and showing the way to those who are lost. They are worship leaders who bring other Christians before the throne of God to worship Him!
Pray for them because Jesus also said:

  • John 14:12 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.
