with God

Luke 12:15

And He said to them, "Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses."

When I read this verse I have to stop myself.
You see I am an electronic junky (so to speak). Like most guys I like lights and gadgets on things. If there is an upgrade to computers (which there seems to be everyday) I think I need it. If there is a new keyboard (Being a musician) I think I have to have it.
Although I think I need these things, financially I can't afford them. Which is a good thing. Because it shows me that I don't really need them.
My computer works fine. I'm able to use it for the bible studies each week and devotionals daily.
My bible program works fine with the computer I have and having a faster, more expensive computer will not make the studies any better.

As far as the keyboards, the last one I purchased was about eight years ago. But it sounds fine. I can still use it to worship the Lord, since worship doesn't come from an instrument but from the heart, I really don't need a new one.

So why do I tell you all of this? Just to let you know as a teacher of God's word I am only human like you. I have my struggles and trials that I go through just like you.
But also because the Lord is teaching me about desiring things that I really don't need just as I mentioned.

I thank the Lord for what I have everyday, because I know God always allows me to have what I need. And if I don't have it, then God must know that I don't really need it. And my comfort is in knowing that God is looking out for me.

So next time you see that commercial on TV or read that ad in the magazine or paper, ask God if you really need it.
If He says yes then great, but if HE says no, then be comforted that God knows what you need and has supplied you what you need for now.

Some day I MAY have the newest computer, or the latest keyboard. If I do, then I know that God knows that I need it and He has allowed me to have it.

God may tell you no today on something you think you need, but you never know, next year or even next month He may say yes I want you to have this. And if not, then look back in a year from now and realize that you really never needed it.
