Matt 7:8-11

8 "For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 9 "Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 "Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11 "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

Did you know you are one of the riches persons in the world?
Read verse 8 again:

"For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

If you as a Christian ask anything of God you will receive it. Therefore whatever you ask is yours.
The question is what are you asking for?
Think about it, you as a Christian can ask God for anything and it's yours. So will you ask for a nice big new house or a new BMW? What about the Lotto? Are you asking to win the Lotto?
Before you start to give your list to God of the things you want, I would encourage you to read the following verse.

  • Romans 8:5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

  • The ways of the world are to ask for big houses and fancy cars, or to even win the Lotto.
But as Christians we are to set our minds on the things of the Spirit.

Maybe you are reading this and thinking, "I have asked God for things and He doesn't give them to me."

Here could be one reason why.

  • James 4:3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.

  • Or maybe the key is in today's devotional verses.

9 "Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 "Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent?

Could it be you are asking for a rock when God wants to give you bread? Or maybe you are asking for a serpent when God wants you to ask for a fish.

So many times we ask because we think we need. In the examples Jesus gave, bread and fish were necessities that were needed.

So before you give your shopping list to God, ask yourself if these are things you really need. Then after you have your list trimmed down, ask God if they are things you really need.

I will give you one hint of something really big that you can ask for and will get.
    Ask God for a mansion.

  • John 14:2-3 2 "In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

  • You will get it, but not very likely here on earth, but in heaven.
And the only way to Heaven is through Jesus Christ.

  • John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
