5 Minutes a day / 5 Days a week

with God

Psalms 20:1-9 (NKJV)

1 May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble;
May the name of the God of Jacob defend you;
3 May He remember all your offerings,
And accept your burnt sacrifice. Selah
4 May He grant you according to your heart's desire,
And fulfill all your purpose.
5 We will rejoice in your salvation,
And in the name of our God we will set up our banners!
May the LORD fulfill all your petitions.
6 Now I know that the LORD saves His anointed;
He will answer him from His holy heaven
With the saving strength of His right hand.
7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses;
But we will remember the name of the LORD our God.
8 They have bowed down and fallen;
But we have risen and stand upright.
9 Save, LORD!
May the King answer us when we call.

Verse 1 says in the NLT "May the God of Israel keep you safe from all harm."

The God of Israel, this is the God of the bible.
There are many so-called gods in this world. Some have names like Buddha, or Mohammed or even Mother Nature.
But there are gods that we worship every day that we don't have common names for, like money, or food, or any materialistic thing. God talks about them in one of the funniest verses, but also one of the saddest verses in the Bible.

  • Isaiah 44:14-17 14 He cuts down cedars for himself, And takes the cypress and the oak; He secures it for himself among the trees of the forest. He plants a pine, and the rain nourishes it.15 Then it shall be for a man to burn, For he will take some of it and warm himself; Yes, he kindles it and bakes bread; Indeed he makes a god and worships it; He makes it a carved image, and falls down to it.16 He burns half of it in the fire; With this half he eats meat; He roasts a roast, and is satisfied. He even warms himself and says, "Ah! I am warm, I have seen the fire."17 And the rest of it he makes into a god, His carved image. He falls down before it and worships it, Prays to it and says, "Deliver me, for you are my god!"

  • I have to laugh every time I read this, but my heart is also broken because we all do this, putting our trust in material things and money.

    "7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the LORD our God."

    There is only one God and Him you shall worship.

    2 May He send you help from the sanctuary, And strengthen you out of Zion;

    6 Now I know that the LORD saves His anointed; He will answer him from His holy heaven with the saving strength of His right hand.

    A block of wood or even our money cannot answer us, but God will, try worship the only true God who can talk!

    "8 They have bowed down and fallen; But we have risen and stand upright."
