Psalms 16:2-11 (NLT)

1 Keep me safe, O God,
for I have come to you for refuge.
2 I said to the LORD, "You are my Master!
All the good things I have are from you."
3 The godly people in the land
are my true heroes!
I take pleasure in them!
4 Those who chase after other gods will be filled with sorrow.
I will not take part in their sacrifices
or even speak the names of their gods.
6 The land you have given me is a pleasant land.
What a wonderful inheritance!
7 I will bless the LORD who guides me;
even at night my heart instructs me.
8 I know the LORD is always with me.
I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.
9 No wonder my heart is filled with joy,
and my mouth shouts his praises!
My body rests in safety.
10 For you will not leave my soul among the dead
or allow your godly one to rot in the grave.
11 You will show me the way of life,
granting me the joy of your presence
and the pleasures of living with you forever.


Isn't it good to know that we can take refuge in God?
Or as the NKJV puts it "Preserve me, O God, for in You I put my trust."

God watches over us continually. When we are at work, or at home and even when we are asleep. We can be at peace knowing that our trust is in God.
Jesus put it in an even more intimate way:

  • Matt 10:29-31 29 "Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father's will. 30 "But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 "Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.


    • God notices even when a bird falls to the ground, how much more does He think about us who are made in His image?
    Plus, Jesus came and died for all men and women, not the animals. That's how much He cares for us.

    How do you feel about your brothers or sisters in Christ?
    Like verse 3, "The godly people in the land are my true heroes! I take pleasure in them!"

    Do you enjoy the company of other Christians or would you rather spend time the people mentioned in verse 4 "Those who chase after other gods will be filled with sorrow. I will not take part in their sacrifices or even speak the names of their gods."

    It's not wrong to have friends in the world. But if you desire to do what they do, and desire to be like them, then stop pray verse 11.

    "You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever"

    Take joy in the Lord this day and forever. After all, we will be with Him forever in Heaven, why not start enjoying God now?
