Psalms 126:2-3 (NLT)

2 We were filled with laughter,
and we sang for joy.
And the other nations said,
"What amazing things the LORD has done for them."
3 Yes, the LORD has done amazing things for us!
What joy!

When was the last time you laughed?
I don't mean at a joke (clean or dirty) or at a comedian or a comedy on TV.
I'm talking about the joy that comes form the Lord and the knowledge of His salvation.

Sometimes people see us as Christians as sourpusses. We walk around like we just finished eating a lemon with a sour look on our faces, or act like someone just died walking around sulking at the world. (No wonder some don't want to become Christians.)

But the Lord tells us that:

  • John 17:15-17 15 "I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. 16 "They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 "Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.

  • That's right, we are in this world but not of this world. We don't have to laugh at the world's dirty jokes whether from a co-worker or a TV show or a movie. In fact, we should walk away from such things.

But that doesn't mean that we can't laugh and enjoy our time here on this earth.
God didn't put us here as a punishment. God created the earth for us to live on until we go to heaven to be with Him.

So how do you find joy in the world with all the sin, killing, rape, stealing, backbiting or whatever else depresses you in this world?

The answer is in today's devotional in verse 3.

Yes, the LORD has done amazing things for us!
    What joy!

Our joy is in the Lord and what He has done for us.
Stop and think about that for a minute. God has taken you and me as sinners and provided a way for us to be with Him in heaven for all eternity. But not only that, but the Lord is with you right now, that's right at this very moment as you are reading this, the Lord is watching over you, or even right next to you. Look over, do you see Him? I know you don't, but He's there.

I can't see the wind, but I felt breeze today.
It doesn't mean the wind does not exist, it just means I can't see it. But I feel the affects of the wind.
Just as we don't see the Lord, we feel the affects of Him in our lives.

So have joy and rejoice with laughter because the Lord has done great things for you and He wants you to be happy.
In order to have joy and happiness, you have to laugh!
