Romans 8:12-14 (NLT)
12 So, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation whatsoever to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. 13 For if you keep on following it, you will perish. But if through the power of the Holy Spirit you turn from it and its evil deeds, you will live. 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.
As a musician, I remember times practicing with the worship team at church, and being asked who my musical influences were or why I played with a particular style.
My answer was always that I was lead by the Spirit of God to play to God.
But when I was in the world I had different influences for my playing. Like stardom, women, fame, to be recognized or be somebody. But with those types of influences, there was always emptiness inside of me.
But when I play to the Lord, for the Lord, there is no longer that emptiness. It doesn't matter if anyone hears me play and sing to the Lord today, because I no longer do it for the glory of man. But rather, I play to God and Jesus because I love God and Jesus and my desire is to please Them.
Think about some of the things you do and why you do them. What or who are your influences? What do you hope to gain out of what you do, maybe recognition, or a pat on the back, how about a raise at work?
The world tries to influence the decisions we make everyday with their commercials or shows on TV and the movies we watch.
They influence how we dress, what we eat, and even where we want to live.
When we try these suggestions or influences of the world, we always end up empty and wanting more.
But you don't have to feel empty any longer.
How? By not allowing the world to influence you and the way you live your life.
Rather, let God influence you, read His word everyday, and you won't feel empty, feeling like you're missing something.
Don't seek the approval of the world, but seek to please God. After all, He will be the one saying:
Matt 25:21 "His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'
And it won't be because you wore the latest fashion, or had the newest computer, or had a nice home, or a great job that paid well that God will say well done.
No, it will be because you didn't allow the world to influence your decisions, and allowed God to be the one who you did it for.
Matt 25:40 "And the King will answer and say to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.'
