5 Minutes a day / 5 Days a week
with God
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Just as we work each week for our wages, we also work for our sins.
Have you ever thought about that?
Today's verse says, "The wages of sin is death" in order to get your wages; you have to work for it.
That's what we were doing before we met Jesus Christ. It's only that some worked harder at sinning then others. But still, even though we were all sinners, (big sins or small) the payment was the same, death.
But if you are a Christian, you no longer work towards death, but you have the gift of eternal life in Jesus Christ the Son of God.
Notice the verse also says, "The gift of God is eternal life." Meaning that you don't work for eternal life, it's a gift to all of us from God. But in order to have God's gift to you, you have to accept it.
Think of it this way:
Let's say you take home $200 a week, but your bills are $2,000 each week. No matter how hard you work you will never be able to pay off your debt, because as you are earning the $200 each week the $2,000 bills increase each week. So within a years time your bills are $104,000, but you only made $10,400, that's a difference of $93,600 you would owe at the end of the year, after you paid $200 each week towards the bills.
It's the same way for those who try to earn salvation. They give a little time or money and think they have earned their way into heaven.
Some think that if they go to church on Sunday that that would take care of their sins for the week.
Now let's take the same scenario of $200 a week verse $2,000 in bills.
Let's suppose someone you never knew, who was the richest man on earth, died and left all his money to you. Now this is no little amount, but it's $2,000,000,000,000 (that's right, two trillion dollars). You would have enough to pay your bills, your friend's bills and even your enemy's bills, plus hundreds of thousands for others that you don't even know.
That's what Jesus did for us, the only difference is, He knows each and every person He died for, that includes you. That's right, Jesus knew when He was dieing on the cross how much of a sinner you are, but still He died for you anyway.
Every time I stop and really think about that, I am overcome with Jesus' love for me.
Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
There is no amount of work I can do to save myself. There is never enough I can do to thank Jesus for His love for me.
What about you, are you trying to earn your way into heaven? Do you now see that it's impossible to try and earn your way into heaven?
If you want to go to heaven, God wants you there. All you have to do is ask Him for His gift to you, and you can stop working the wages of sin and trying in your own way to get into heaven.
Why not ask Him now, Just call out for His gift by name. His gift is Jesus, and if you ask He will not say no. No more rejection.
John 6:37 "All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.
