John 21:15
So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?" He said to Him, "Yes, Lord; You know that I love You." He said to him, "Feed My lambs."
If you are married, you think of ways to show your spouse that you love them.
Maybe you're not married but are dating someone, you also think of ways to show this person that you love them.
OK, so your not married or not even dating, still you think of ways to show your family or friends that you love them.
What about when it comes to Jesus? We as believers try to think of ways to show Jesus that we love Him and are thankful for what He did for us on the cross.
Reading today's verse we read about Jesus and Peter. If you don't remember what happen, it started during the last supper when Jesus was telling His disciples that He was going to be crucified. Peter's response was:
John 13:37 Peter said to Him, "Lord, why can I not follow You now? I will lay down my life for Your sake."
But Jesus answered Peter with:
John 13:38 Jesus answered him, "Will you lay down your life for My sake? Most assuredly, I say to you, the rooster shall not crow till you have denied Me three times.
And if you read on, then you find out that Peter did deny Jesus three times, just as Jesus said he would.
So today's verse is after Jesus had risen from the dead, and Jesus asks Peter three times if he loved Him.
Each time Peter responded with, "yes Lord, You know that I love you."
And Jesus responded with, "Feed My lambs."
So does this tell you something?
It should, because Jesus is telling Peter how to show his love for Him, which is by feeding His sheep.
How do you do that, simply minister to those in need. Jesus tells us how to do that also.
Matt 25:37-40 (NLT) 37 "Then these righteous ones will reply, 'Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? 39 When did we ever see you sick or in prison, and visit you?' 40 And the King will tell them, 'I assure you, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!'
So show Jesus that you love Him the way He asks us to, by ministering to those in need.
