with God

1 Thess 5:16-18

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

New years resolutions. It seems everyone makes them, and also breaks them.
But I do want to warn you about your New Years resolutions that you may have made over six months ago.

  • Num 30:2 2 "If a man makes a vow to the LORD, or swears an oath to bind himself by some agreement, he shall not break his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.

  • Deut 23:21-23 21 "When you make a vow to the LORD your God, you shall not delay to pay it; for the LORD your God will surely require it of you, and it would be sin to you. 22 "But if you abstain from vowing, it shall not be sin to you. 23 "That which has gone from your lips you shall keep and perform, for you voluntarily vowed to the LORD your God what you have promised with your mouth.

  • "God I promise (vow) to read through the bible this year, or read it every day. I Promise to quite smoking or lose weight this year."

When or if you make your New Years resolution(s) this next year, be very cautious of what you vow or promise to do.
If you make a promise or vow to the Lord, then you are required to keep it.
That's why it says in Deut 23:22 "But if you abstain from vowing, it shall not be sin to you.

Your intentions may be good, but I would encourage you not to make a vow to the Lord you know you cannot or will not keep.
But rather pray, "Lord please help me this year to read through your word or read it every day." Then you are not dependent upon your own strength, but rather you have the Lord helping you with what He would want you to do anyway.

I would also encourage you to pray today's verses to the Lord for this next year.

Maybe pray, "Lord, may I rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and in everything give thanks; for this is Your will in Christ Jesus for me."

What a great year you will have if the Lord does this for you. I pray He will do it for you and me too!
