Heb 10:17-18 (NLT)
17 Then he adds, "I will never again remember their sins and lawless deeds." 18 Now when sins have been forgiven, there is no need to offer any more sacrifices.
One of the hardest things to do is to remember that Jesus paid the price for ALL our sins once and for all on the cross.
We know and believe as Christians that Jesus died for our sin, all our sins.
But there are times that we forget that, and try to earn our salvation. We sometimes confuse this with a repentant heart, because we know we messed up and we want to be forgiven.
But in our attempt to be forgiven, we try to work out our salvation through our own works.
Satan doesn't want you to know that you are forgiven, and he takes pleasure in your attempt to workout your own righteousness.
But when we do this, it is an abomination to God.
Why, because when we try and earn our forgiveness, then we are saying that what Jesus did on the cross was not good enough and He needs our help to get us into heaven.
On the other hand, a true repentant heart is NOT one that seeks to earn salvation, but acknowledges Jesus' death on the cross as full payment for sin and tries it's best to not sin again.
Even if you do fail time and time again, the fact that you hate what you are doing, and you cry out to God for His forgives and help with your sin, is the mark of true repentance.
2 Cor 7:9-10 9 Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. 10 For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.
2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
So don't let sin or your attempts and failure to conquer sin get you down.
Always remember that Jesus died for ALL your sins, and he is your strength in time of weakness.
2 Cor 12:9-10 (NLT) 9 Each time he said, "My gracious favor is all you need. My power works best in your weakness." So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may work through me. 10 Since I know it is all for Christ's good, I am quite content with my weaknesses and with insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
Heb 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
