Mark 9:23-29
23 Jesus said to him, "If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes." 24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, "Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!" 25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, "Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter him no more!" 26 Then the spirit cried out, convulsed him greatly, and came out of him. And he became as one dead, so that many said, "He is dead." 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose. 28 And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, "Why could we not cast it out?" 29 So He said to them, "This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting."
Notice Jesus didn't say, "You just didn't have enough faith."
Jesus says all you need is a little faith to move mountains.
Matt 17:20-21 20 So Jesus said to them, "Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. 21 "However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting."
This is the same instance as we just read in the book of Mark, but Matthew adds just how much faith Jesus is talking about, and that it's not just by faith, but also by prayer and fasting.
"But I have prayed and fasted and still God doesn't answer me." You may be thinking.
Remember that prayer is not me and you conforming God to our will, but rather God conforming us to His will.
God is not a genie or Santa Claus where we can just ask for what we want, but rather God blesses as He wills.
1 Cor 12:11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.
So if your prayers are not answered or don't seem to be answered, try asking the Lord what His will is.
And remember that it may not be because you don't have enough faith, but because you may not be truly seeking the Lord's will, just your own.
Just ask God and He will let you know.
