Dan 6:16
16 So the king gave the command, and they brought Daniel and cast him into the den of lions. But the king spoke, saying to Daniel, "Your God, whom you serve continually, He will deliver you."
We have all heard of the story of Daniel in the lion's den, where Daniel was thrown into the lion's den because he refused to obey king Darius' decree of not praying to any god for thirty days.
But something else you may not have known about the story is that the king highly favored Daniel because he was a man of God.
Here in today's devotional we have one of the high points in the story. Many would think that it is Daniel's faith in God, which is a high point. But something we seldom hear about is king Darius and his part in the story. And that's what we are reading about today.
Maybe you missed it, let me point it out to you to you again:
"Your God, whom you serve continually, He will deliver you."
This is king Darius speaking to Daniel. Now the interesting thing is he was not a follower of God, but rather had many gods that he served.
That is where Daniel comes in. It was because of Daniel's faith in God that the king could even say such a thing.
So to apply this to us today, do others see God or Jesus in you like the king did with Daniel?
People watch us all the time, and they do because they want to know a God who's loving, compassionate, that will help and save them. Just as king Darius saw in Daniel's God, who is the same God we serve today.
I urge you to read the book of Daniel again and notice all the different times that God was revealed to the king and others in this book of the bible.
Then look at your own life and ask yourself if the way you are living shows others Jesus in your life or not.
I'm not talking about preaching to them, but rather I'm talking about your life style.
It's like a saying I've heard: Preach the gospel, and use words when necessary.
