5 Minutes a day / 5 Days a week
with God
Prov 7:6-23 (NLT)
6 I was looking out the window of my house one day 7 and saw a simpleminded young man who lacked common sense. 8 He was crossing the street near the house of an immoral woman. He was strolling down the path by her house 9 at twilight, as the day was fading, as the dark of night set in. 10 The woman approached him, dressed seductively and sly of heart. 11 She was the brash, rebellious type who never stays at home. 12 She is often seen in the streets and markets, soliciting at every corner.
13 She threw her arms around him and kissed him, and with a brazen look she said, 14 "I've offered my sacrifices and just finished my vows. 15 It's you I was looking for! I came out to find you, and here you are! 16 My bed is spread with colored sheets of finest linen imported from Egypt. 17 I've perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. 18 Come, let's drink our fill of love until morning. Let's enjoy each other's caresses, 19 for my husband is not home. He's away on a long trip. 20 He has taken a wallet full of money with him, and he won't return until later in the month."
21 So she seduced him with her pretty speech. With her flattery she enticed him. 22 He followed her at once, like an ox going to the slaughter or like a trapped stag, 23 awaiting the arrow that would pierce its heart. He was like a bird flying into a snare, little knowing it would cost him his life.
As you read this you may think, "What a stupid guy for going after a woman like that".
But you if know these devotions by now and you know we will see ourselves here also.
"But how, I would never go after something so down right obvious."
What about the car you drive, did the ads on TV entice you because they said you really need this car to be cool.
What about the food you eat, did some ad tell you that it was good for you or that you just have to have it because it's sooooo goooood?
We read magazines and by their make-up (if you're a girl) hair color, body building stuff to make us look better or livelonger.
Sure, there is nothing wrong with looking good and feeling good and healthy, but are you really buying stuff because an ad tells you it's good or the best or because you checked it out for yourself.
Saccharin was suppose to be good and healthy, there's no sugar so you will lose weight.
But they found out that it causes cancer, but they still sell it and people still buy it.
There are other artificial sweeteners that seem to be good for you because the ads says they are but if you check them out, they may be more harmful then helpful.
Now I'm not picking on artificial sweeteners, I'm just giving you and example of how we are deceived, just as this young man was by the false advertising of the woman.
Think about some of the things you are into, then put them up against verses 21-23 changing the word "he" to your name and the word "she" to whatever it is that's enticing you and drawing you away from the Lord.
