John 15:9-11 (NLT)
9 "I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. 10 When you obey me, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!
Have you been happy or sad/depressed lately?
As Christians, we often get so caught up in our doing that we forget the real reason why we are doing it.
Paul wrote,
1 Cor 13:3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.
Doing things are great and the lord wants us to keep busy helping others.
But we shouldn't be so busy that we forget about the Lord and His love for us.
Have you forgotten that? Have you been so busy that you forgotten about the Lord?
Here is a little reminder of the Lord we serve.
The Lord loves you so much that He died for you. But not only died but now lives and is at the right hand of the Father alive and still loving you.
Another reason we don't have joy is we get so caught up with our problems that we forget what an awesome God we serve.
We try to find joy in "doing", "having" and "getting". But pure joy that surpasses all understanding can only come from the Lord.
So if you have been feeling depressed or sad lately, just remember that the Lord loves you! Stop from your busyness for a minute and reflect on our Saviors words.
Read today's verse again and read His words for yourself.
"I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love.
I have told you this so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!
Jesus is telling you that right now with His words. Why? Because He wants you to have joy, not worldly joy that lasts a short time. But rather joy that is so great that it overflows from you to others.
So if you really want to do for others, start with the love and joy that only comes from Jesus Christ!
